About John Woodruff Portraits and paintings by "John the Artist" may be found in public and private collections from Maui to Cape Cod and beyond. Studies at Syracuse University and the University of Mexico led John directly to... the streets... Greenwich Village, NYC... Provincetown, MA... Jackson Square, New Orleans... Farmer's Market, LA... all over North America... "That was my real education", recalls John, "I was part of a dying breed of artists influenced by the beat/hippie generation... anti-establishment and mind expansion were key... trying to make a living as an artist on the ground". Which he did for 25 years, then came a stint as gallery owner with his wife Amy, for 20 years. (Woodruff's Art Center). A realist/impressionist, with flashes of gestural abstraction, Woodruff now works primarily in acrylic, as well as charcoal, pastel, watercolor and oil. A self described "peoples artist" Woodruff enjoys creating commission pieces as well as "pure art", often customizing paintings to suit the client. His expanded repertoire (from a quick sketch, to a full portrait, to a finely executed painting, to a large scale mural) enables him to offer fine art to a wide spectrum of people. "I like the variety and the human interaction", says John, "These elements and desire to create beautiful art that excites the emotions, give me a reason to get up in the morning!
